BULLETIN: Study of geometries, concentrating on Euclidean, non-Euclidean, and projective geometries; examination of axiomatic foundations and qualitative study of the geometries; considers briefly Mohr-Mascheroni constructions and impossible constructions. Prerequisite: MATH 281 and permission of instructor. Offered even years only.
OBJECTIVES: After finishing this course, the student should understand the concepts of Euclidean geometry and its methods of proof.  The student should be able to construct efficient proofs of geometric theorems and understand why these techniques are important.  In addition, the student will be introduced to non-Euclidean and projective geometries.
EXAMINATIONS: 1 mid-term:
14 Feb ( Thur)



1 two-hour final: 20 Mar  (12 noon Wed)
HOMEWORK: Assignments are due weekly on Monday at 5 p.m.; 5 points  per problem.

Paper should be approximately 8.5 by 11; only one side may be used.  Please do not use ruled paper!

Papers are to be folded as a book with name and assignment number on the outside as illustrated.
