ENGR-325 Reading for Monday Jan. 11, 2016

We will be covering many of the topics in our textbook this quarter but not necessarily in the order they appear there. So some attention to the schedule will be needed. Below I point out sections that relate to what we have done thus far. So read.

Chapter one likely contains a mix of information you have seen or learned in other classes and new information, so read about what you don't know. Section 1.2 presents the concept of a measurement system somewhat like I have done in class. Section 1.3 introduces the notion of an experimental test plan. We are not talking about that now, but will come back to it. Section 1.4 is titled Calibration. Carefully read section 1.4. Section 1.5 is about Standards, good info but you likely have seen much of this in other classes. Section 1.6 Presenting Data has important info on handling significant digits on pages 33 & 34. Read those pages.

Note in the last paragraph on page 34: "For direct measurements from a digital readout, record all known digits". Thus record all digits as raw data. After doing calculations or evaluating the accuracy of a measurement you may need to do rounding.

In chapter 6, section 5, loading errors are discussed. Read. And in section 6 of chapter 6 amplifiers are briefly discussed. Have a look.
